Dr. Paul Coreil, vice chancellor of the LSU AgCenter and director of its Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service recently was honored with the Association of Southern Region Extension Directors Award for Excellence in Leadership.
Coreil received the honor during the association’s meeting April 6-8 in Oklahoma City. It recognized him for his effective leadership, consistently thoughtful deliberation, amazing preparation and sound judgment.
In addition to serving as vice chancellor and director of extension for the LSU AgCenter since 2001, Coreil also recently served as chair of the Association of Southern Region Extension Directors, chair of the eXtension National Governing Committee and chair of the national Extension Committee on Organization and Policy.
His peers said Coreil’s “focus on accountability and inclusiveness” have sparked even stronger working relationships between state extension directors, policy boards and the national counterparts in the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He also is credited with a dedication to new technology to deliver extension educational programs and was hailed as one of the key initiators of the national eXtension program – a Web-based interactive learning site (eXtension.org) that involves 74 land-grant universities from across the country sharing information from extension professionals and experiment station researchers on 50 subjects to make the most relevant possible information available to consumers. The site gets 4 million page views and 1 million site visits a year.
With more than 30 years of experience in the land-grant university system and the LSU AgCenter, Coreil’s peers credit him with excellence in program implementation and leadership.
“As an administrator, Dr. Coreil streamlined extension programs, making them more effective, efficient and targeting the needs of our clientele,” said LSU AgCenter associate vice chancellor and extension associate director Dwight Landreneau in the material nominating Coreil for this award. “Through his leadership, the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service is a powerhouse for the state’s economy, youth and community development.”
