LSU AgCenter bringing ‘magic’ of agriculture to Baton Rouge

News Release Distributed 04/15/10

The LSU AgCenter will give the public a chance to view the roles agriculture plays in their daily lives when it hosts its annual AgMagic event April 19-25 at the Parker Coliseum on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge.

AgMagic is designed to give children and adults a fun way to learn that food, clothing, lumber and other products all are part of a complex agricultural system. It also shows them the important connections among agriculture, the environment and their lives.

AgMagic will be open to scheduled school groups April 19-23 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. In addition, the public is invited to attend April 24-25 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day. Admission is free for all of the events.

The event features a variety of interactive exhibits that cover plants, animals, wildlife and other topics. They range from demonstrations showing the growth stages of plants to displays designed to help children learn about forestry, aquatic life and more. Children also will be invited to “walk through the forest” and make leaf prints, animal tracks and insect rubbings. They’ll also get to view butterflies in a butterfly garden, see eggs hatch and handle baby chicks.

While at AgMagic, visitors also can visit LSU Day events on Saturday, April 24, on the LSU campus. For more information about AgMagic, visit www.LSUAgCenter.com/AgMagic. For information on LSU Day events, visit www.LSUDay.com.
