The 13th annual Louisiana 4-H Foundation Golf Tournament presented by Cameron Communications was held at Gray Plantation in Lake Charles April 8.
Twenty-eight teams from across the state participated in the event benefiting the Louisiana 4-H program. Proceeds support youth across the state through summer camps, educational trips and scholarships.
“This was our first time to have the event in southwest Louisiana. The support we received from sponsors and golfers was outstanding,” Eric Eskew, director of the Louisiana 4-H Foundation, said. “Without the support of our title sponsor, Cameron Communications, and additional support from Papa John’s Pizza, this fundraiser would not have been the success that it was.”
The tournament raised more than $17,000 for the foundation. This amount is one of the highest ever recorded for the event.
The format was a four-person scramble broken into three flights. Prizes were given to the top three teams in each flight. Additional prizes were awarded for longest drive, straightest drive and closest to the pin on all par-3 holes.
The first-place team in the championship flight was the Mixon & Carroll Law Firm group from Columbia, La. Members were James Mixon, Jim McCann, Russell Cummings and Brian Frazier. The second-place team was the CenterPoint Energy team of Lake Charles consisting of Terry Duhon, Blaine Spell, Doug Boudreaux and Gerald Cryer. Third-place team was the Sweetlake Land & Oil Co. of Lake Charles comprised of Charles Latiolais, Grant Anderson, Bill Gage and Gary Forestier.
The first-place team in the first flight was the Dudley DeBosier Law Firm of Baton Rouge. Members were James Peltier, Steve DeBosier, Jeff Watson and Bryon Bennett. The Farmers Rice Mill team of Lake Charles finished second and was made up of Richard Deville, Patrick Hartwell, Joey Broussard and Mike Fontenot. Danny Rivers, Giovanni Cabrera, Dan Murphy and Hunter Sonnier finished third in the flight and represented Papa John’s Pizza.
The winners of the second flight came from Baton Rouge and were Adam Knapp, Jan Moller, William Blair and Darren Bertrand. In second place was the Lake Charles Generator Power Source team of Lonny Ogea, Lance Ogea, Randy Billedeaux and Brian Larracca. Finishing third was another Baton Rouge team made up of Rose Berggren, Jerry Berggren, Keith Bischoff and Al Ortego.
