CROWLEY, La. – The LSU AgCenter Rice Research Station Annual Field Day will be held July 1, with a host of rice experts and speakers discussing the latest in rice farming technology.
“Anyone connected to the rice industry will learn from the subjects covered in the field day,” said Steve Linscombe, director of the Rice Research Station.
Field tours start at 7:15 a.m., and the last tour will leave the rice dryer warehouse no later than 9 a.m.
On the field tour, speakers will cover topics that include rice breeding, hybrid development, agronomy, and control of weeds, diseases and insects.
A poster session will be held from 7:15 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., followed by the program in the rice dryer building.
Speakers will include Clarence Berken, vice chairman of the Louisiana Rice Research Board; Mike Salassi, LSU AgCenter economist giving an update on the rice market and the farm bill; Bob Cummings of the USA Rice Federation talking about the global competitiveness of American rice; Mike Strain, Louisiana commissioner of Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry; Bill Richardson, LSU vice president for agriculture; Rogers Leonard, LSU AgCenter associate vice chancellor.
