BATON ROUGE, La. – The LSU AgCenter has two new gardening publications for sale – Ground Covers for Louisiana Landscapes and Vines for Louisiana Landscapes.
The 20-page Ground Covers publication provides the latest information and recommendations about these alternatives to traditional lawn grasses. This full-color publication includes 19 photos of some of the state’s favorite ground covers. Topics include choosing the right ground cover, preparing the planting area, planting recommendations and maintenance advice.
Vines for Louisiana Landscapes is 16 pages also with 19 photos. Topics include planting and maintenance of cool-season annual vines, warm-season annual vines, tender perennial vines and hardy perennial vines. The guide includes how to train and prune vines as well as manage pest problems.
Authors are Dan Gill and Allen Owings, both extension horticulturists, and Ron Strahan, extension weed scientist. Both publications are $5 each. Proceeds from the sales go back into preparation of educational resources, according to John Wozniak, assistant director of LSU AgCenter Communications.
