CHASE, La. – The LSU AgCenter will host the second annual Northeast Region Youth Field Day at the Sweet Potato Research Station in Chase on Sept. 23.
Registration is limited to 25 students per parish in grades seven to 12. Interested youth should contact their parish agent to register by Sept. 18.
On-site sign-in will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the first session at 10. The final session will end at 12:15 p.m. Lunch will not be provided, but a picnic area will be available for groups who bring sack lunches.
Participants will complete four 30-minute sessions focusing on beef and forage production, sweet potato research and production, agricultural best management practices and agricultural career exploration.
Tara Smith, LSU AgCenter northeast regional director, said the field day offers youth from northeast Louisiana a unique opportunity to learn about agricultural careers and research and experience first-hand the basics of agricultural production, which is an important economic driver in northeast Louisiana.
The Sweet Potato Research Station is located approximately 5 miles south of Winnsboro on La. Highway 15. More information is available from Terri Crawford, northeast region 4-H coordinator, at 318-435-2903 or by email.
