BATON ROUGE, La. – The East Baton Rouge Master Gardeners are presenting two programs in area libraries on Sept. 17 from 6-8 p.m. and Nov. 12 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The free educational presentations provide research-based information targeted toward home gardeners, according to publicity chair Donna Montgomery.

The program on Sept. 17 will be held at the Fairwood Branch library at 12910 Old Hammond Highway. The presentations will be “Preparing Your Garden for the Cool Season” and “A Year in the Garden with Bulbs.”

The Nov. 12 program will be held at the Main Library at 7711 Goodwood Blvd. Montgomery said the two topics to be discussed include “Pet Friendly Garden” and “Preparing your Garden for the Cool Season.”

“The pet friendly gardens program will teach how to create a garden that welcomes pets while remaining a lovely place to enjoy,” Montgomery said. “Learn what plants are poisonous to dogs and cats and discover safe plants that ‘can take it.’ You’ll get tips for discouraging destructive pet behavior, too.”

Preparing your garden for the cool season will answer questions about what happens in the garden after summer, what should get winterized and what gets removed, she said.
