BATON ROUGE, La. – Two LSU AgCenter faculty members were recognized for receiving professorships at a reception on Dec. 7.
The honorees, Beth Reames, a nutrition specialist, and Diane Sasser, an adolescent development specialist, each have had long careers within the LSU AgCenter’s Cooperative Extension Service.
Reames, a registered dietician and licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Examiners in Dietetics and Nutrition, was awarded the Ann Armstrong Peltier Professorship.
Sasser, who is the team leader for the Healthy Beginnings for Your Baby program, was awarded the Adrienne Gravois Brazan Professorship.
Peltier said she is very happy to have Reames receive the professorship in her name. Peltier attended LSU from 1947 to 1951.
“Dietetics was my dream education,” she said. “How I figured that out I do not know, as there were no dietitians in DeRidder.”
Peltier passed up jobs at Presbyterian Hospital in Boston and Cook County Hospital in Chicago in order to stay close to home with a job at Charity Hospital in New Orleans.
The late Adrienne Gravois Brazan, who retired from the AgCenter after many years working in Assumption and St. James parishes, graduated from LSU with a home economics degree in 1947.
One of a few women of that era with a college degree, Brazan raised seven children while teaching elementary school in Vacherie.
Reames and Sasser expressed their appreciation for the honor and reflected on some of the high points of their careers within the LSU AgCenter.
