Ag Alley also includes a mini farm to teach children about agriculture. The mini farm will be open for school children on Jan. 16-17.
Last year, more than 1,500 fourth- and eighth- graders went through the mini farm that includes various farm animals such as goats, cattle, pigs, chicks, dairy cattle and beef cattle.
Jason Holmes, LSU AgCenter regional livestock specialist, said the Louisiana Cattlemen’s Association holds its annual convention along side the expo, and the pairing has increased attendance.
“That’s drawing a different crowd to the event, but the expo’s emphasis is still on row crops,” Holmes said.
The Ike Hamilton Expo Center is located at 501 Mane St. in West Monroe. The event will be open from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Jan. 18, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 19.
