Teen leadership course set for Oct. 18, 25 in Oak Grove

News Release Distributed 10/04/10

Lead Louisiana for Teens, a leadership program for teenagers, will be held Oct. 18 and Oct. 25 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the LSU AgCenter's Delta Rural Development Center, 10284 Louisiana Highway 17 in Oak Grove.

The pilot program will be presented by the LSU AgCenter in collaboration with West Carroll Partners in Prevention. It provides six hours of training, including some new features just for teens in the ninth through 12th grades, said James Barnes, director of the LSU AgCenter's Delta Rural Development Center.

“We know students will benefit from attending this seminar,” Barnes said. “They will gain practical knowledge on leadership that will help them become better students and better leaders in all aspects of their student life in West Carroll Parish.”

The program will feature the leadership simulation game Everest from the Harvard University Business School to simulate team decision making by the students. “It’s a dynamic game and will teach students the fundamental attributes of great leadership,” Barnes said.

“We’re looking forward to working with West Carroll Partners in Prevention to offer this workshop to the first 20 students who sign up in West Carroll Parish,” he said.

Brochures have been sent to high schools in the parish. Parents can call 318-428-2652 or 318-428-3571 for more information.

More information about this workshop is available at www.leadlouisiana.blogspot.com.
