ALEXANDRIA, La. – The LSU AgCenter Dean Lee Research and Extension Center will host the third annual Beef Cattle and Forage Field Day on Oct. 8.
Registration will begin at 2:30 p.m. at the State Evacuation Shelter on U.S. Highway 71 south of Alexandria.
Field tours will be conducted by AgCenter researchers and extension agents, said LSU AgCenter animal scientist Glen Gentry.
Presentations will feature nutrient runoff from winter pastures; planting methods for winter forages; cattle body condition scoring; cellular traps for feral hogs; armyworm control and bermudagrass stem maggot; pasture weed control with non-2,4-D herbicides; and standing forages and winter supplementation.
An indoor program will include a presentation on grazing management for beef producers, graduation recognition for the Louisiana Master Cattleman program and an update from the Louisiana Cattlemen’s Association.
A sponsored meal will be served after the program.
