Flowering cherry trees can be seen blooming around Louisiana in February and March. In some years, the first flowers appear in late January in the southern part of the state.

The attractive flowers are a vibrant, deep pink and are produced in great abundance before the leaves emerge.

The Taiwan flowering cherry and the Okame flowering cherry are popular varieties to consider. Plants prefer a full- to part-sun location in the landscape. Well-drained soil is also needed.
