Coral bells (Heuchera) is a plant for shady containers and landscape beds.

Coral bells get their name from the nodding flower stems that are produced in spring. Foliage colors include green, burgundy, purple, red, gold, orange and brown. Some have variegated patterns.

Coral bells make a nice filler plant in a short-term combination planting. They provide colorful foliage and nodding flower stems. Blooms appear late spring and continue through summer. Deadhead dead flowers to encourage repeat blooming through summer.

Fall, late winter or early spring is the time to plant coral bells. Well-drained soil is important. Irrigate lightly and only when needed.
