CROWLEY, La. – The LSU AgCenter will conduct a series of meetings throughout the Louisiana rice-growing region for rice farmers to get the latest information to help with the 2016 crop.
Information will include planting preparation; controlling diseases, weeds and insects; new rice varieties, fertility, updates on the rice market outlook, and soybeans.
Sessions will be held in Welsh, Ville Platte, Crowley, Mansura, Rayville and Abbeville.
The first meeting, the Jefferson Davis Rice and Soybean Forum, will be held Jan. 5 at the Welsh Community Center, at 201 S. Elm St., with registration at 8 a.m. Private pesticide recertification will be available.
On Jan. 6, the meeting for Evangeline and St. Landry parishes will be held Jan. 6 in the Ville Platte North Side Civic Center, 704 North Soileau St., with registration at 7:30 a.m. Pesticide recertification will be offered.
On Jan. 7, the Acadia Parish meeting will be in Crowley at the Acadia Parish LSU AgCenter Extension Office, 157 Cherokee Drive, with registration at 8 a.m. Pesticide recertification will be available.
On Jan. 19, the meeting for central Louisiana farmers will be at the Avoyelles Parish Extension Office, 8592 Louisiana Highway 1, Mansura, starting at 8:15 a.m. Pesticide recertification will be available.
On Feb. 2, the Northeast Louisiana Rice Forum will be held in Rayville at the Rayville Civic Center, 827 Louisa St., starting at 9 a.m. Pesticide recertification will not be available.
On Feb. 5, the Vermilion Parish meeting will be held in Abbeville at the LSU AgCenter Extension Office, 1105 W. Port St., with registration at 8 a.m. Pesticide recertification will not be offered.
Individuals who have a disability that requires special assistance or accommodation for participation in the program should contact the AgCenter agent in the parish where the event will be held.
