Pregnant women asked to participate in nutrition study

News Release Distributed 09/11/14

BATON ROUGE, La. – Pregnant women between the ages of 18 and 35 may be eligible to participate in the Louisiana Moms and Babies Study (LAMBS), which is examining nutrition and infant growth.

Carol Lammi-Keefe, professor in the LSU AgCenter School of Nutrition and Food Sciences, said the study will evaluate what women consume during pregnancy and how that affects growth of their infants.

To participate, women must plan to deliver their babies at Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge. Participants will be asked to keep track of their diet and to give blood samples for analysis, Lammi-Keefe said. After their babies are born, researchers will document their growth and overall health for one year.

“We’re trying to gain information so we can make the very best dietary recommendations for the health of mothers and their infants,” Lammi-Keefe said.

Compensation of up to $575 throughout the study is available.

The Louisiana Moms and Babies Study is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. LSU, LSU AgCenter, Pennington Biomedical Research Center and Woman’s Hospital are participating.

Women interested in participating should call 225-578-7160 or email LAMBSstudy@gmail.com.
