Dean Lee field day set for July 17 in Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, La. – The LSU AgCenter Dean Lee Research and Extension Center in Alexandria will host a field day on July 17. Attendees will hear about AgCenter scientists' research on various row crops and management of insects, weeds and diseases.

Registration and refreshments will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the State Evacuation Shelter at the Dean Lee Research and Extension Center. Field tours will follow from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

Chris Coreil, an agronomist with the National Resources Conservation Service, will make a presentation outside the shelter at 10:50 a.m. The indoor program will begin at 11:15 a.m. and conclude with lunch at noon.

Daniel Stephenson, AgCenter weed scientist, said field tour topics include:

— Corn and cotton varieties

— Corn and cotton insects

— Grain sorghum agronomy research

— Interpreting soils of the Red River alluvial region

— Weed management programs

— Current issues in field crops disease management

— Optimizing yields in soybeans

— Insect pest management

The indoor session will feature a presentation on feral hogs in Louisiana and an AgCenter update from Bill Richardson, LSU vice president for agriculture.
