Leadership camp for military teens set for July 28-30 on LSU campus

News Release Distributed 07/17/14

BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU AgCenter 4-H Youth Development is hosting a teen leadership camp on the LSU campus July 28-30, 2014.

The camp is open exclusively to 13- to 18-year-old youth who are members of a military family.

The three-day camp is part of the Operation Military Kids program, which partners with communities and organizations throughout America to support the children of deployed service members.

Some of the activities at this year’s camp will include tackling the challenge course at the LSU University Recreation Center, a tour of Tiger Stadium, a videography class and a basic CPR/first aid class. The camp is funded by a grant through the U.S. Army.

“This is a great opportunity for military kids to meet other youth who are going through similar issues,” said Susan Dawson Riley, coordinator of Operation Military Kids with the 4-H Youth Development department.

“This event will help them acquire some technical knowledge, develop organizational and leadership skills and participate in recreational activities all in a fun, social setting,” Riley said.

To register for the event, contact Riley at 225-578-5786 or by email or Caitie Davis at 225-578-2974 or by email.
