ALEXANDRIA, La. – A Beef Cattle and Forage Field Day will be held Oct. 16 at the Dean Lee Research and Extension Center here.
Registration starts at 2:30 p.m. at the State Emergency Evacuation Shelter south of the LSU-Alexandria campus along U.S. Highway 71.
The field tour will include presentations on nutrient runoff from winter pastures, different planting methods for winter forages, heifer selection, standing forage for winter feed supplementation, smutgrass control, pasture weed identification, benefits of injectable minerals and a simulation of the effects of rainfall on soil.
The indoor program will include an update on feral hog control research, calf pre-conditioning and weaning, Louisiana Master Cattle Producer graduation and an update on the activities of the Louisiana Cattlemen’s Association.
The field day will serve as credit for Phase II of the Louisiana Master Farmer Program, and continuing education credit for Louisiana Master Farmer graduates. Supper will be provided.
