BATON ROUGE, La. – 4-H’ers from across the state competed in the state 4-H Commodity Ambassador contests on April 15 on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge. In all, 116 4-H’ers competed in the Chicken, Egg, Seafood, Sugar and Turkey Ambassador contests.
The 4-H Commodity Ambassador Program is designed for education and enhancement of 4-H club members. The program provides an opportunity for 4-H’ers to increase their knowledge of agricultural commodities as well as improve their verbal and written communication skills.
The 2014 state winners are:
Chicken Ambassador
— Division I (4th to 6th graders): Chloe Ayo, Lafourche Parish
— Division II (7th to 9th graders): Nicholas LeBlanc, Vermilion Parish
— Division III (10th to 12th graders): Gabie Davis, Terrebonne Parish
Egg Ambassador
— Division I (4th to 6th graders): Garrett Sanders, Tangipahoa Parish
— Division II (7th to 9th graders): Brynna Robert, Jefferson Parish
— Division III (10th to 12th graders): Kari Davis, Calcasieu Parish
Seafood Ambassador
— Division I (4th to 6th graders): Rachel Stewart, Ascension Parish

The winners in Divisions I and II of the Chicken, Egg, Seafood, Sugar and Turkey Ambassador contests won a $50 award.
The winners in Division III of the Chicken, Egg and Turkey Ambassador contests won a trip to represent Louisiana at the National 4-H Poultry and Egg Conference in Louisville, Ky., in November. The winners in Division III of the Seafood and Sugar Ambassador contests won a 4-H educational trip for July.
The Louisiana Poultry Federation, Louisiana Egg Commission, Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board, American Society of Sugarcane Technologists and Louisiana 4-H Foundation sponsor the 4-H Commodity Ambassador Programs.
