Connect My Louisiana summit Jan. 15 in Hammond

HAMMOND, La. – The LSU AgCenter will host a Connect My Louisiana summit on the importance of being connected to the Internet on Jan. 15 in the Southeast Region Office at the Hammond Research Station.

The summit begins at 9 a.m. and goes to 3:30 p.m. and will feature success stories and educational modules that showcase effective uses of broadband Internet technology, according to LSU AgCenter agent Valerie Vincent.

Connect My Louisiana is an educational program in 18 Louisiana parishes and provides classes designed to introduce residents and business people to high-speed Internet access via broadband and to show them how the Web can be used to improve lives.

Speakers and their topics include:

– John Wyble, from the Louisiana Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA) program, will speak on using Web-based tools and resources for children and families.

– Jackie Jenkins, instructional technology coordinator for the Washington Parish School System, will discuss school use of technology.

– Henderson Lewis, superintendent of the East Feliciana School System, will talk about broadband and the instructional program.

– David Woerner and Bruce Garner, AgCenter information technology specialists, will host breakout sessions on a variety of topics relating to the use of technology.

– Jay Domingue, representing Radio Communications Services, will address connectivity issues.
