Legal risk workshops scheduled for forest landowners, foresters

Three workshops will provide information on managing legal risk for forest landowners and foresters in Arkansas and Louisiana.

Topics will include wildlife management, insurance, leasing contracts, landowner liability and agritourism.

The first workshop will be Feb. 24 at the Southwest Research & Extension Center, 362 Highway 174 North, Hope, Ark. The second workshop will be March 16 at the Shreveport Holiday Inn, 5555 Financial Plaza, Shreveport, La. The final workshop will take place on April 13 in Monticello, Ark.

Workshop presenters will include Tamara Walkingstick, associate director of the Arkansas Forest Resources Center; Becky McPeake, associate professor and extension specialist with the Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service; Dora Ann Hatch, statewide coordinator for agritourism with the LSU AgCenter; Rusty Rumley and Elizabeth Rumley, staff attorneys with the National Agricultural Law Center.

The meetings will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. A registration fee of $20 per person or $30 per couple will cover lunch.
