Baton Rouge Spring Garden Show, Chili Cook-off, Car Show scheduled for March 24-25

News Release Distributed 02/29/12

A weekend full of food, flowers and fun is scheduled for Baton Rouge on March 24-25 when the LSU AgCenter presents the 10th Annual Baton Rouge Spring Garden Show, the sixth Annual Louisiana State and Regional Chili Cook-off and the third annual Baton Rouge Spring Car Show.

All of the events will be held in the John M. Parker Coliseum on Highland Road on the LSU campus.

The garden show will be open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day, the chili cook-off will be held from 10:30-5 p.m. each day, and the car show will be held from 9 a.m.-noon on Sunday, March 25.

“The floor of the coliseum will be transformed into a fascinating world of plants and gardens,” said David Himelrick, LSU AgCenter professor of horticulture.

The show includes numerous vendors selling a variety of plants, garden, and patio-related merchandise. Fun children’s activities will be available in the Kid’s Zone.

“Get all your gardening questions answered by experts from the LSU AgCenter and local plant societies,” Himelrick said.

Visitors can bring soil samples for analysis and taste chili and talk with some of the world’s best chili cooks, Himelrick said.

“You can see the best chili cooks in action and sample some of their great recipes,” he said. Other foods will be available.

Classic cars, street rods and other rolling works of art with all models and years will be on display Sunday.

Admission for all events is $5 for adults; children under 12 will be admitted at no charge. Registration for exhibiting in the car show is $20.
