LSU AgCenter poinsettia open house set for Dec. 2

News Release Distributed 10/31/11

The LSU AgCenter’s 2011 poinsettia open house is set for Dec. 2 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Burden Center located at 4560 Essen Lane near the junction of I-10 in Baton Rouge.

More than 1,000 plants will be on display and for sale that day. Prices range from $8 for a large, pinched 6-inch poinsettia to $6 for a smaller 6-inch plant.

“We have trial plants from four poinsettia breeders this year – Paul Ecke Ranch, Syngenta, Dummen USA and Selecta,” said Jeff Kuehny, resident coordinator at Burden.

Those attending the open house will be asked to vote on their favorites among the new varieties, Kuehny said. “This will guide me and my research team on which ones to evaluate.”

Proceeds from the sale go to fund research at the Burden Center.

For additional information on this year’s open house, contact Kuehny at 225-763-3990.
