Citrus meeting set for April 12 in Belle Chasse

News Release Distributed 03/29/11

The LSU AgCenter has scheduled a meeting for backyard citrus growers on April 12 from 7-9 p.m. in Belle Chasse.

Alan Vaughn, LSU AgCenter county agent in Plaquemines Parish, will discuss what’s involved in growing citrus and answer questions.

“Citrus is the most popular fruit tree planted in the area, and we felt that the public needs more information in this area,” Vaughn said.

His presentation will include how to select the best varieties as well as planting, fertilizing, pruning and controlling insects and diseases.

The program is designed for experienced growers as well as for those who are just starting, Vaughn said.

There is no admission fee to the meeting, and handouts will be provided. The Belle Chasse Auditorium is located at 8398 Belle Chasse Hwy. in front of the football field.

For additional information, contact Vaughn at 504-433-3664.
