MANSURA, La. – AgDay will be held at the Avoyelles Parish LSU AgCenter and Southern University office April 18-20 for students from kindergarten to sixth grade. The interactive field trip will show students how agricultural products are produced.
“We have a wide variety of activities for students to learn about the importance of agriculture,” said Esther Boe, LSU AgCenter county agent in Avoyelles Parish. “They will have the chance to take part in hands-on activities and make things that they can take back to their schools and homes.”
Participants will be able to make a bee habitat that can be taken back to their schools to attract bees. They also will have the chance to plant seeds of flowers that will attract butterflies and hummingbirds.
A food guide pyramid will be demonstrated with the making of a Seven Layer Dip. Also, students will be able to make a red worm bin that can be taken home for composting.
Deadline for registration is April 11, and the cost is $5 a person. For more information, contact the Avoyelles Parish extension office at (318) 964-2245.
