The Louisiana Jump$tart Coalition in partnership with the LSU AgCenter will host the 2011 Financial Education Summit at the Crowne Plaza hotel Sept. 15-16 in Baton Rouge.

The target audience includes teachers, financial educators, youth development professionals, home-school parents, faith-based organizations and others, said LSU AgCenter economist Jeanette Tucker, who helped organized the event.

“The summit is for anyone that wants to improve their knowledge of financial management and obtain valuable tools and skills that can provide youth and adults with a foundation for financial success,” Tucker said.

The Louisiana Jump$tart Coalition comprises a group of public and private organizations working together to improve the financial literacy of the people of Louisiana.

The two-day summit will feature state and nationally recognized experts in the field of personal financial literacy. Keynote speakers include Rachel Ramsey Cruze of the Dave Ramsey Organization, Maxine Sweet, vice president of Experian North America’s Public Education Organization, and Bert Davis, senior community relations associate for Capital One’s Community Affairs Team.

The summit also will offer ten concurrent sessions conducted by presenters representing Money Skill, Internal Revenue Service, Attorney General’s Office, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Federal Reserve Bank, LSU Student Financial Management Center, Louisiana Office of Financial Institutions and the Secret Service.

Hope Ministries will conduct a pre-conference bonus session, “Understanding the Dynamics of Poverty.”

The Louisiana Office of Student and Financial Assistance will present F.L.Y. or financial literacy for you, which Tucker describes as an entertaining and educational session on financial management.

“It uses drama, poetry and music to deliver a very strong and very impressive financial literacy message,” Tucker said.

Interactive, educational and professional exhibits will be on display during the event and will address ways to enhance personal and professional development.
