The LSU AgCenter and the Louisiana Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy will host the Louisiana Youth Financial Educators’ Summit at the Crown Plaza hotel in Baton Rouge Sept. 27-28.
LSU AgCenter family economist Jeanette Tucker helped organize the event and said the audience includes teachers, financial educators and youth development professionals.
“Anyone that works with youth and financial educators and others that are interested in boosting their understanding of financial matters is encouraged to participate in this event,” Tucker said.
The two-day summit will feature five tracks:
– Financial responsibility and decision making.
– Risk management and insurance.
– Saving and investing.
– Curriculum and pedagogy.
– Educators’ personal financial concerns.
The conference presenters will include an array of state and nationally recognized experts in the field of personal financial literacy, Tucker said. Keynote speakers include:
– Steve Bucci, author of “Credit Repair for Dummies” and “Money Management All in One for Dummies.”
– Pam Krueger and Jack Gallagher, creator, producer and co-hosts of the award-winning MoneyTrack series on PBS.
– Kathleen Floyd, deputy director of investor education for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Other presenters represent Consumer-Action, National Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy, LexisNexis, National Endowment for Financial Education, American Financial Services Association Education Foundation, Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Capital One and Griffith Insurance Education Foundation.
The summit will include interactive, educational and professional exhibits, and all participants will receive a toolkit of investor education curricula and resources, Tucker said. Participants also can earn up to nine continuing learning units.
