The LSU AgCenter and Southern University Ag Center will present two workshops to help livestock producers harvest and market their meat in April.
The first session will be April 6, starting at 8:30 a.m., at the LSU AgCenter Calhoun Research Station at 321 Highway 80 east of Calhoun.
The second will be April 14, starting at 8:30 a.m., in Breaux Bridge at the LSU AgCenter and Southern University Ag Center extension office, 114 Courthouse St.
Speakers will include:
– Jim Jenkins, of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, will discuss compliance with meat inspection regulations.
– Stuart Gardener, of the Natural Resources Conservation Service, will talk about identifying and using non-traditional markets for meat.
– Bobby Williams, a Louisiana chef, will discuss what end users want.
– YaSin Muhaimin, a Louisiana producer, will discuss value-added processing and ethnic markets.
