LSU AgCenter sponsors Covington garden show March 20-21

News Distributed 03/04/10

The LSU AgCenter and Louisiana Master Gardeners of St. Tammany Parish are in final preparation mode for the two-day spring garden show that will be held March 20-21 at the St. Tammany Parish Fairgrounds in Covington.

Rusty Batty, LSU AgCenter county agent and show coordinator, said the event will feature plant and garden supplies for sale, a plant health clinic and children’s activities.

“This year’s show will offer more plant materials for sale from local nurseries for homeowners who may have lost some of their landscape during the January deep freeze,” Batty said.

LSU AgCenter specialists and Master Gardeners will present seminars on rose care, beneficial and pest insects, weed control and deer-resistant landscaping.

On March 20, LSU AgCenter horticulturist Dan Gill will discuss colorful and evergreen plants, and Patrick Youngblood from New Orleans Botanical Gardens will discuss rose care and maintenance.

On March 21, LSU AgCenter specialists Alan Morgan and Kiki Fontenot will discuss home vegetable gardening.

The show will run from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. both days. Admission is $3 per person, with children 12 and under admitted free. Proceeds fund an agriculture and horticulture scholarship.

More information is available from Rusty Batty at 985-75-2635.
