LSU AgCenter agent starts crawfish blog

News Release Distributed 03/01/10

CROWLEY, La. – Crawfish farmers and consumers can get a weekly snapshot of what is happening in the crawfish market with a Web log produced by the LSU AgCenter.

Richard Johnson, LSU AgCenter aquaculture agent, said the blog will be updated every Monday.

“The purpose is to get more immediate information out to the producers so they can respond more quickly,” Johnson said.

The first installment that came out Feb. 22 gave details about how the cold temperatures are affecting the crawfish catch.

“It’s a biological response,” Johnson said. “They just don’t move around much. They’re cold-blooded animals, so they move less.”

Johnson said the Web site has a feature that allows visitors to leave comments and ask questions, and he’s already received a few.

The blog can be found at http://lsuagcentercrawfish.wordpress.com.
