News Release Distributed 06/08/10
ST. JOSEPH, La. – The LSU AgCenter Northeast Research Station Pest Management and Crop Production Field Day has been rescheduled for July 20 after cancellation of the original date, which was in June.
“We thought it best to postpone from our original date, which was June 17, because of extremely dry weather,” said Donnie Miller, research coordinator at the station. “We need rainfall to properly activate the treatments and so things look better.”
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and field tours will start at about 8:10 a.m. The program concludes with a sponsored lunch at noon.
Topics to be discussed by LSU AgCenter researchers and extension specialists during the field tour include:
– Weed management in cotton in conventional, Roundup Ready and Liberty Link systems.
– Soil-applied herbicides in soybean weed management systems and the effects of herbicide drift.
– Harvest aid application timing in soybeans.
– Regional cotton integrated pest management and the tarnished plant bug.
– Disease management in row crops.
– Nutrient, soil texture and profile effects on Southern root-knot and reniform nematode in cotton and the potential impact of composted poultry litter on root knot nematode populations.
– Low input cotton production and a cotton crop update.
– Using crop sensors to schedule optimal nitrogen rates.
– Rice insect pest management.
– Corn and rice weed management.
– Impact of pH on soil fertility and crop production.
