The LSU AgCenter’s 28th Annual Sugarcane Field Day will be held July 21 at the Sugar Research Station near St. Gabriel.
The program will begin with registration and an equipment display from 8-9 a.m. Scientists will provide the latest research-based information during field tours, which will include:
– New sugarcane varieties and energy cane.
– The sugarcane crossing house.
– Soil fertility and precision agriculture.
– Insect and disease management.
– Weed control.
Guest speakers following the field tour will include Dr. Mike Strain, Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry, and Jim Simon, general manager of the American Sugar Cane League.
The field day will conclude with a noon meal and refreshments.
The AgCenter Sugar Research Station is located on Highway 30, 11 miles south of Tiger Stadium on the LSU campus, or nine miles north of Gonzales.
