Louisiana places third at National 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational

Louisiana 4-H'ers took third place in the 2010 National 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational held in Kerrville, Texas, June 29-July 2.

KERRVILLE, Texas – The Louisiana team placed third in the National 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational held here June 29-July 2.

Each day’s competition has a point assignment, and the state with the most points wins sweepstakes, said Mindy Kile, LSU AgCenter agent. “Louisiana got third-place team out of the whole nation. This is the first year we have placed in sweepstakes.”

Daily results follow:

Wednesday, Small-bore Rifle, Silhouettes: third-place individual, Jacie Kennison, Ascension Parish; seventh, Denise Bowe, Morehouse Parish; ninth, John Newman, Jackson Parish; and first-place team.

Small-bore pistol, Slowfire Bullseye: first, individual, Nicholas Garcie, Jackson Parish; third-place team.

Shotgun, Sporting Clays: tenth individual, Brett Brown, Ascension Parish; fifth-place team.

Muzzle-loader, 50-Yard Bullseye: ninth individual, Allison Newman, Jackson Parish; fourth-place team.

Archery, Compound, Field: fifth-place team.

Air Pistol, Slow-fire Bullseye: fifth, Kristen Smith, Calcasieu Parish; sixth, Bryar Barton, Winn Parish; third-place team.

Hunting Skills, Wildlife Identification: seventh individual, Morgan Smith, Calcasieu Parish; tenth, Brenden Trahan, Cameron Parish; fourth-place team.

Thursday, Archery Compound, FITA: sixth individual, Garrett Richard, St. Martin Parish; fifth-place team.

Air Pistol, Silhouettes: third individual, Jeremy Rowan, Franklin Parish; seventh, Kristen Smith, Calcasieu Parish; eighth, Bryar Barton, Winn Parish; first-place team.

Muzzle-loader, Bottles & Haffner: second individual, Allison Newman, Jackson Parish; fourth-place team.

Small-bore Pistol, Hunter Pistol Silhouette: tenth-place individual, Thomas Horne, Winn Parish.

Small-bore rifle, CMP: fifth individual, John Newman, Jackson Parish; fifth-place team.

Friday, Archery, Compound, 3D: second individual, Garrett Richard, St. Martin Parish; fifth, Tyler Canal, East Baton Rouge Parish; first-place team.

Small-bore Pistol, Camp Perry Round: sixth individual, Thomas Horne, Winn Parish; ninth, Nicholas Garcie, Jackson Parish.

Hunting Skills, Hunter Safety and Skills: fifth individual, Morgan Smith, Calcasieu Parish; fourth-place team.

Air Pistol: fourth individual Kristen Smith, Calcasieu Parish; ninth, Bryar Barton, Winn Parish; second-place team.

Overall Results, Compound Archery: third individual, Garrett Richard, St. Martin Parish; fourth-place team.

Air Pistol: second individual, Kristen Smith, Calcasieu Parish; fifth, Bryar Barton, Winn Parish; first-place team.

Hunting Skills: eighth individual, Brenden Trahan, Cameron Parish; fifth-place team.

The Small-bore Rifle team was made up of Denise Bowe, Morehouse Parish; John Newman, Jackson Parish; Jacie Kennison, Ascension Parish; and Justin Trahan, Calcasieu Parish.

Hunting Skills team members were Morgan Smith, Calcasieu Parish; Josh Scott, Tangipahoa Parish; Peter Ashley, DeSoto Parish; and Brenden Trahan, Cameron Parish.

The Shotgun team included Jason Theriot, Cameron Parish; Brett Brown, Ascension Parish; Trace Duhon, Point Coupee Parish; and Kyle Davis, Bienville Parish.

Delaina Guidry and John Fontenot, both of St. Martin Parish, made up the Archery Recurve team.

Representing Muzzle-loading were Mark Allen Touchton, DeSoto Parish; Allison Newman, Jackson Parish; John Lejeune, Calcasieu Parish; and Colton Madden, Bossier Parish.

Archery Compound team members were Eric Melancon, St. Martin Parish; Tyler Canal, East Baton Rouge Parish; Codey Angelle, St. Martin Parish; and Garrett Richard, St. Martin Parish.

The Air Pistol team included Dakota Jenkins, Tangipahoa Parish; Bryar Barton, Winn Parish; Kristen Smith, Calcasieu Parish; and Jeremy Rowan, Franklin Parish.

Air Rifle members were Keith Black, Morehouse Parish; Sierra Bowe, Morehouse Parish; and Anthony Picou, Ascension Parish.

Will Breedlove and Nicholas Garcie, both of Jackson Parish, and Thomas Horne, of Winn Parish, were the Small-bore Pistol team.
