Farmers getting ready for the 2010 rice growing season can get advice and the latest information at seven meetings being held in January, all featuring experts from the LSU AgCenter.
The first will be Jan. 5 at the community center in Welsh starting at 8 a.m.
On Jan. 6, farmers will gather at the Ville Platte Civic Center at 7:30 a.m.
The Jan. 7 session will be in Crowley at the LSU AgCenter Extension Office at 157 Cherokee Drive, beginning at 7:30 a.m.
On Jan. 8, Vermilion Parish farmers will meet at the American Legion Home in Kaplan, starting at 7:30 a.m.
The Avoyelles Parish session will be on Jan. 15 at 8 a.m. at the Bunkie Community Center.
Two sessions will be held for North Louisiana farmers. The first is on Jan. 27 at the Rayville Civic Center at 10 a.m. On Jan. 29 in Concordia Parish at the Monterrey Baptist Church, presentations on grain crops will start at 8 a.m., and the talks on rice will begin at 1:15 p.m.
Among the topics to be discussed are fertility, variety selection, rice and soybean price outlook, rice water weevil control, disease management, a weed control update and rice marketing.
