WEST MONROE, La. – The Northeast Louisiana Master Gardeners 6th Annual Gardening Seminar will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the West Monroe Convention Center on Jan. 16.
The meeting will feature experts on horticulture, gardening and landscape architecture, said Kerry Heafner, AgCenter horticulture agent in Ouachita Parish.
The keynote speaker for the meeting will be Norman Winter, director of the University of Georgia Botanical Garden at the Bamboo Farm. Winter is the author of four books and is a garden columnist for Saturday issues of the Savannah Morning News. He spent 15 years as an extension horticulture specialist with Mississippi State University before moving to Georgia. A popular garden lecturer, Winter has spoken at numerous conventions and symposiums.
Also on the program is LSU AgCenter horticulturist Allen Owings, research director at the AgCenter Hammond Research Station. Owings also serves as director of research and education for the Louisiana Nursery and Landscape Association.
Tony Tradewell, owner of Tony Tradewell Landscape Architect in Deville, Louisiana, will discuss residential, institutional and municipal projects that he has completed throughout the ArkLaMiss region.
Admission to the seminar is $20 with seating available for 300. Pre-registration is preferred, but walk-ins are welcome, Heafner said.
Registration forms are available at the AgCenter Ouachita Parish office at 704 Cypress St. in West Monroe.
The seminar is conducted in conjunction with the LSU AgCenter, the Northeast Louisiana Master Gardener Association and the North Louisiana Agri-Business Council.
The Northeast Louisiana Master Gardener Association has been around for more than 10 years and currently has more than 100 members.
The Louisiana Master Gardeners is a volunteer program of the LSU AgCenter.
