BATON ROUGE, La. – The LSU Dairy Science Club recognized an animal science professor, a long-time dairyman and students at its annual banquet at the LSU Student Union on May 2.
Cathy Williams, professor in the LSU College of Agriculture’s School of Animal Sciences and faculty advisor to the Dairy Science Club, was chosen as the Honorary Lifetime Member.
Williams was actively involved in the LSU Dairy Science Club as a dairy nutrition student at LSU in the 1980s. She received a master’s degree from the University of Georgia and a doctorate from Auburn University. She joined the faculty in what was the Department of Dairy Science at LSU in 1998.
“Her true passion has been teaching and advising students as they prepare for future careers in agriculture,” said Morgan Richard, a junior in animal sciences.
The club recognized Laurent Barbé Jr. as Dairyman of the Year. Barbé has been in the dairy industry since he was a small child, helping to feed calves on his family’s dairy farm in Westwego.

Five students received LSU Dairy Science Alumni Scholarships: Buffy Ackman, of Baton Rouge; Katelyn Corsentino, of Denham Springs; Garrett Gardner, of Clinton; Hayley Jewell, of Ventress; and Summer Underwood, of Denham Springs.
Morgan Richard was chosen as the LSU Dairy Alumni Association Dairy Scholar.
