HAMMOND, La. – The LSU AgCenter Hammond Research Station will host an open house for nursery, landscape, retail garden center and related industry professionals from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 5.
The open house will provide members of the industry an opportunity to tour the station and see some of its ongoing landscape horticulture projects said LSU AgCenter horticulturist Allen Owings.. The event will prominently feature trial plants in the sun garden.
The main morning activity will be the annual Margie Jenkins Azalea Garden Horticulture Lectures. Speakers will include horticulturists Mike Arnold from Texas A&M University and Gary Knox from the University of Florida. Arnold will address his research on developing coastal native plants for xeric and saline landscapes. Knox will discuss plants from the Big Bend Garden trials in Quincy, Fla.
The keynote speaker will be Bobby Green from Green Nurseries and Landscape in Fairhope, Ala. Green will talk about magnolias, camellias and additional improved native and exotic plants for the Gulf South.
This free event requires no preregistration and will include a complimentary hamburger lunch. The Hammond Research Station is located at 21549 Old Covington Highway (Louisiana Highway 1067) east of Hammond.
