Brush With Burden exhibition to feature local artists

News Release Distributed 02/25/14

BATON ROUGE, La. – The fourth annual Brush With Burden art exhibition will be held at the LSU AgCenter’s Botanic Garden at Burden from March 23-30.

This event allows for the celebration of Louisiana’s talented artists and their depictions of the state’s cultural and natural resources, said Jeff Kuehny, director of the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens at Burden.

“A juried multi-media exhibition, Brush With Burden features all types of art inspired by Louisiana's natural beauty, flora and fauna under the theme ‘The Nature and Culture of Louisiana,’” Kuehny said.

The Brush with Burden exhibition will be open to the public in the Steele Burden Memorial Orangerie and the Ione Burden Conference Center 1-4 p.m. Sundays and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. other days March 23-30.

The event is sponsored by the Burden Horticulture Society and the Botanic Gardens. Kuehny said the event includes a free opening reception from 3-6 p.m. March 22 at the Orangerie.

The exhibition’s art awards categories are Best in Show, Judges’ Choice, People’s Choice and Merit for the best artwork in various categories, including paintings, 3-D work and photographs, Kuehny said.

Artist Billy Solitario will hold a workshop in tandem with the exhibit from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 22, at the Ione Burden Conference Center in the Botanic Gardens.

His lecture will cover landscapes and includes a demonstration on his unique approach to illustrating clouds and skyscapes. Registration is $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Seating is limited.

In addition to this exhibit, winning artwork will be displayed at the Shaw Center for the Arts from April 7-30.

Proceeds from the sales of art will benefit the Burden Horticulture Society, Kuehny said.

The LSU AgCenter’s Botanic Gardens at Burden is located at 4560 Essen Lane near I-10.
