BATON ROUGE, La. – With the recent seasonal temperatures, it’s truly beginning to feel like the holiday season. And the LSU AgCenter Dairy Store has the items to make it feel that much more special.
For more than 30 years, the store has been making cheese and eggnog for the holidays, and production is increasing now, according to LSU AgCenter dairy science professor Chuck Boeneke.
The store offers three boxes that each include two blocks of cheese – the Yellow Tiger box with two blocks of cheddar cheese, the Cajun Spice box with two blocks of jalapeno Cajun spice cheese and the Bayou Bengal box with a block of cheddar and a block of Cajun Spice.
Each box contains two pounds of cheese and sells for $11.50 plus tax and shipping charges. They are popular for gifts or holiday entertaining, Boeneke said.
With three different boxes to choose from along with quart bottles of eggnog for $2.99, Boeneke and his staff are ramping up the production to stay ahead of the holiday rush.
“We make about 9,000 pounds of cheese a year, and we normally just keep taking orders until we run out,” Boeneke said.
The cheese boxes are available in the store for purchase and online.
The LSU AgCenter Dairy Store, which is at the corner of South Stadium and Tower Drive on the LSU campus, also has meat items including beef, pork, lamb and goat.
Proceeds from sales help support the educational and research programs of the LSU AgCenter.
