ShiShi Gashira Camellia – Ornamental Plant of the Week for December 1, 2014

A superior camellia for the Louisiana landscape, the Louisiana Super Plant ShiShi Gashira variety is the most widely planted camellia in the South. It is frequently referred to as a Camellia sasanqua but actually is a Camellia hiemalis.

Double, rosy pink flowers appear in mid- to late October and last through mid-January. Plants can be maintained at 5 feet in most landscapes.

Plant ShiShi Gashira in a mostly sun landscape setting. Bed drainage and an acid soil are best for this plant.

Fall and winter are the best times during the year to add new shrubs to landscape plantings.
