BATON ROUGE, La. – Dwight Landreneau, LSU AgCenter associate vice chancellor and associate director of the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service, has announced plans to retire June 1, 2013.
“Dwight has been an outstanding extension professional and effective extension administrator,” said Paul Coreil, LSU AgCenter vice chancellor and director of extension. “I know of no one with more passion and commitment to the Extension Service mission of helping improve the quality of life for everyone.
“Without a doubt, Dwight represents what is best about the university’s public service mission as he always saw the entire state as our campus and felt compelled to do everything possible to bring the university to the people,” he said.
Whether it was a crawfish farmer, 4-H student, rice producer or extension volunteer, Landreneau always made time for everyone and inspired them to feel good about themselves and their ability to achieve excellence, Coreil added.
Landreneau has been in his current position for six years. He previously served in the AgCenter as a 4-H agent, county agent and area crawfish specialist for 20 years before leaving in 1998 for a position in state government.
He served as assistant secretary of the state Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism before being named secretary of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries in 2004.
Landreneau, who makes his home in Washington, La., holds degrees from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and Louisiana State University.
During his tenure as associate vice chancellor, Landreneau has provided leadership in developing the Louisiana 4-H Museum in Mansura and expanding the Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center in Pollack along with his continuing contributions to the Louisiana crawfish industry.
“The LSU Ag Center will always be a part of my life, and there is a special place in my heart for the Cooperative Extension Service,” Landreneau said. “I have enjoyed my association with this great organization and all of the wonderful people associated with extension.”
