Mold control and remediation training course offered in Baton Rouge on March 26-28

News Release Distributed 02/08/13

BATON ROUGE, La. – The LSU AgCenter is offering a three-day mold control and remediation training course March 26-28 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the LaHouse Resource Center on the LSU campus.

It is part of the AgCenter’s educational efforts to shape healthy and durable homes in the Gulf Coast region, said LSU AgCenter housing specialist Claudette Reichel. “This course will provide contractors and technicians with the science-based knowledge and hands-on training needed to perform safe and effective mold remediation and long term control,” she said.

This course fulfills the initial training requirement for a Mold Remediation Contractor License in Louisiana.

The class also qualifies for 24 CEUs for Louisiana residential contractors, and participants will receive a certificate of completion that they may submit for professional development credits from their respective organizations.

Improperly or untreated mold can cause adverse effects on indoor air quality and could result in significant property damage, Reichel said. This makes it especially important to have both knowledge of proper cleanup methods and a good understanding of key insights in order to avoid costly or hazardous outcomes.

To help ensure healthy outcomes and satisfied clients, this course not only covers industry standards and procedures but also provides participants with a working knowledge of mold characteristics, moisture dynamics and building science principles that are crucial to effective mold removal and control, Reichel said.

Discounts are available for members of the Louisiana Home Builders Association, Louisiana Realtors, LaHouse Gold-plus Key Contributors, government, students, LSU faculty and employees of nonprofit organizations.

Registration, course fees, course topics and additional information are available here.

LaHouse Resource Center is located at the southwest edge of the LSU campus in Baton Rouge, La. It is at 2858 Gourrier Avenue, between Nicholson Drive and River Road, adjacent the LSU golf course near the intersection of Nicholson Drive and Burbank Drive.

More information is available by calling 225-578-2378 or by email.
