BATON ROUGE, La. – Louisiana cotton producers have the opportunity to provide direction for prioritizing cotton research in Louisiana by participating in a survey being conducted by the LSU AgCenter.

The survey is funded by the Louisiana Cotton Incorporated state support committee, said LSU AgCenter economist Mike Salassi. The committee directs how proceeds from the cotton checkoff program are used to fund research related to Louisiana cotton production each year.

“These areas of research include variety development, weed and insect management and control, crop fertility, production practices and economics,” Salassi said. “Results from the survey currently being conducted will provide valuable information to help the committee invest new checkoff funds in support of research programs critical to the economic viability of the Louisiana cotton industry.”

The survey is being conducted through the Internet, he said.

“All Louisiana cotton producers are encouraged to participate in the survey and provide their input on research important to their farming operation,” Salassi said.

The survey has begun and will continue through summer and into fall.

Louisiana cotton producers can obtain information about the survey, including the web address through which they can participate, by contacting their LSU AgCenter county agent or by contacting Salassi by email.
