Fourteen 4-H members were winners in Louisiana State 4-H Commodity Ambassador contests April 24 on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge. In all, 75 4-H’ers from across the state competed in the chicken, egg, seafood, sugar and turkey contests.
The 4-H Commodity Ambassador Program is designed for education and enhancement of 4-H Club members, according to Theresia Lavergne, LSU AgCenter poultry specialist. The program provides an opportunity for 4-H’ers to increase their knowledge of agricultural commodities and improve their written and verbal communication skills.
The 2012 state winners are:
Chicken Ambassador
Division I (fourth- to sixth-graders) – Clay Zaunbrecher, Vermilion Parish
Division II (seventh- to ninth-graders) – Joshua Lessigne, Acadia Parish
Division III (10th- to 12th-graders) – Austin Gaspard, Vermilion Parish
Egg Ambassador
Division I (fourth- to sixth-graders) – Travyn Hargrave, Vermilion Parish
Division II (seventh- to ninth-graders) – Bret Lee, Vermilion Parish
Division III (10th- to 12th-graders) – Anne Catherine LeBlanc, Vermilion Parish
Seafood Ambassador
Division I (fourth- to sixth-graders) – Emily Phelps, Tangipahoa Parish
Division II (seventh- to ninth-graders) – Connor Waits, Vermilion Parish
Division III (10th- to 12th-graders) – Anne Catherine LeBlanc, Vermilion Parish
Sugar Ambassador
Division I (fourth- to sixth-graders) – Peter Harris, St. Martin Parish
Division II (seventh- to ninth-graders) – Erin Scott, Caldwell Parish

Turkey Ambassador
Division I (fourth- to sixth-graders) – Joel Thompson, Lafayette Parish
Division II (seventh- to ninth-graders) – Caroline Hardy, Jefferson Davis Parish
Division III (10th- to 12th-graders) – Courtney Troxclair, Lafourche Parish
The winners in Divisions I and II of the chicken, egg, seafood and turkey contests won $100 savings bonds.
The winners in Division III of the chicken, egg, and turkey contests won trips to represent Louisiana at the National 4-H Poultry & Egg Conference in Louisville, Ky., in November.
The winners in Division III of the seafood and sugar contests won 4-H education trips to San Antonio, Texas, in July.
The sponsors of the 4-H Commodity Ambassador Programs are the Louisiana Poultry Federation, the Louisiana Egg Commission, the Louisiana Seafood and Marketing Board, the American Society of Sugarcane Technologists and the Louisiana 4-H Foundation.
