OAK GROVE, La. – The LSU AgCenter will hold a midseason field day for northeast Louisiana rice and soybean farmers on July 12 in West Carroll Parish.
The event will start at 9 a.m. at the farm of Vendal and Ken Fairchild to view research plots and to hear presentations by LSU AgCenter faculty on variety development, fertility, insect control and production issues.
At 11 a.m., the field day will resume at the Thomas Jason Lingo Center at 10284 La. Highway 17 South, Oak Grove. In addition to presentations by LSU AgCenter experts on soybeans, the USA Rice Federation will brief farmers on international trade issues and rice-related developments in Washington D.C., followed by lunch.
To reach the plots on the Fairchild farm, drive north on La. Highway 17 to the town of Pioneer, and turn east on La. Highway 588; then drive 2.8 miles. At the second bridge, turn left on an unmarked gravel road to the east and proceed to the rice plots, which are visible along Bayou Macon.
